Kids can’t play it anymore!

All of Germany is talking about this game at the moment! The game app Coin Master is a huge hit in the app stores – and a lot of players are kids. But for some time now it has also been the subject of massive criticism.

The accusation: It is harmless and suitable for children, but could make you addicted to games, say critics. The developer company “Moon Active” rejects the accusations. After satirist Jan Böhmermann had called for complaints, the age recommendation was upgraded to 16 years. Now the Federal Review Board for Media Harmful to Young People has also become active. Even a ban on the game is under discussion. How dangerous is the game really – and what do parents need to know now?

Most Revenue Ever in Februrary

As reported by Superdata, Moon Active’s game generated $87.1 million last month. It took eighth place in the chart for top-grossing mobile titles.

In January, it was revealed that Coin Master was the highest-grossing mobile game in Europe last year. Furthermore, it had generated $500 million by October 2019.

Mobile dominance

Last month, mobile revenue was up 16 per cent year-on-year, as opposed to PC and console, which both saw drops of 6 per cent and 22 per cent respectively.

In terms of revenue, Tencent’s Honour of Kings topped the mobile chart. It was followed by King’s Candy Crush Saga in second place and Playrix’sGardenscapes – New Acres in 3rd. Fourth place went to zombie title Last Shelter: Survival by Long Tech Network Limited.

Supercell’s Clash of Clans closed out the top five. Earlier this month, the Finnish company soft-launched a new match-3 puzzler dubbed Hay Day Pop.

The Unofficial Coin Master Rules

Ever came across the “rule players” of Coin Master? What does it even mean? Players who obey the rules? Well, these players are having their own unofficial rules. Usually these players have certain rules, which they want their friends to follow as well.

These rules are easy to understand, nothing special or difficult:

Never attack your friends!

There is a way to avoid attacking players who are not in your friends list: When you get attacked, press revenge and choose random. The result is you will mostly attack people, which are not in your friends list. Players are following this unofficial rule to hurt damage each other.

Warnings!

If you are about to raid your friends you send them a message on Facebook first. You wait for a couple minutes and see if you hear from them. Basically you ask them if you can dig or you let them spend all the coins first. Here is the trick: You can still dig the coins, even if the person just spent all the coins. This means no one losing anything. You gain coins and your friend is able to react and spend all the coins first.

Not all people play this way, so if you don’t know a person you are connecting with just check it or be clear about the way you play yourself. If you are not a match it might be best to just unfriend and look for other friends.

Of course not everyone is playing in this way. There are a few groups on Facebooks, which are only playing in this way. The best is to hit your “new” friends up with a message to know if they follow any rules regarding raids or attacks. If you follow these rules, but your friends doesn’t its best to remove them from the friends list.
